A test drive of a Motor Home took a took a turn for the worse Friday afternoon (June 29) when a reported mechanical failure led to the driver losing control and crashing into a Federal Way house in the 500 block of Marine Hills.

The occupants of the house were not at home and there were no witnesses to the crash.

However, the driver had to untangle himself from the wreckage, then wander the neighborhood looking for help.

South King Fire & Rescue reports that the crash severed the natural gas meter at the house, releasing high-pressure gas into the neighborhood. This  prompted nearby evacuations until Puget Sound Energy could secure the leaking pipe.

The 34-year old driver suffered a head laceration and was transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

South King Fire & Rescue units were at the scene for nearly six hours, and their Technical Rescue Team was called in to assist a commercial tow truck to extricate the Motor Home from the house as safely as possible.

Federal Way’s building department will follow up with a structural safety survey of the house and Federal Way Police Department is investigating the crash.
