Fight Crime at ‘National Night Out’ Aug. 7; Here’s How YOU Can Participate
‘National Night Out’ is coming to Des Moines on Tuesday, Aug. 7, allowing for residents to get together, get to know each other and discuss how best to fight crime.
“National Night Out is an annual event design to celebrate community,” reads an announcement. “It is the one night a year that is dedicated to encouraging neighbors, police and others to improve the quality of life in Des Moines.”
The deadline to register is July 31.
Key Messages of National Night Out:
- Cohesive, healthy neighborhoods are the key to preventing crime and violence.
- Active block watch groups build communities, increase hope and create harmony.
- Positive activities displace negative activity.
- Combating crime is a partnership of citizens and police.
National Night Out is an opportunity for all parts of the community including businesses, religious institutions and city agencies to come together around the goal of a safe and healthy community.
