Anglers & Yachters Host Local Soldiers To A Day On The Water

We were at the Farmers Market yesterday when someone tipped us off that something special was happening in the Marina.

We looked into it and learned that the Puget Sound Anglers and Des Moines Yacht Club were hosting a group of soldiers from Fort Lewis to a day on the water.

The soldiers are “Warriors in Transition” assigned to a special military unit for complex medical care lasting at least six months. After recovering these soldiers will either transition back to a line unit or civilian life.

The anglers and yachters took a group of 23 out for a day of fishing and cruising and then back to the Des Moines Marina for a dock-side BBQ lunch, accompanied by music from the Saltwater Saints playing at the Farmers Market.

This is the third year this event has been held and we can’t think of a better form of relaxation therapy for these soldiers.
