Des Moines Girl & Mom Trying to Raise Money to Get New Wheelchair Van

Devin Collman of Des Moines needs a new wheelchair-accessible van.

An online fundraiser has been started to help a local girl suffering from Cerebral Palsy buy a new wheelchair van to help get her around town.

“Hi, I’m Devin and my Mom and I desperately NEED a wheelchair van to get me around town to school and Dr. appointments,” reads a note on the fundraiser website. “Our van we have now is about to die and it won’t go over 40 miles an hour because of transmission problems…whatever that means lol.”

Arianne and Devin Collman live in Des Moines.

Devin is 18 and has Cerebral Palsy.

“She is probably one of the sweetest & smartest people you’d ever meet!” said friend Kathy Vallade, who adds:

“Arianne is a single mother with little to no help – one of the most amazing, patient, loving, giving…this list could seriously go on forever! She’s just AWESOME!”

Arianne currently has a minivan with a wheelchair ramp, which she won in a radio station Christmas giveaway several years ago. Unfortunately, the van is now too small, since Devin has grown so much over the years.

“Devin had to get a larger wheelchair,” added Vallade. “Which meant almost an impossible fit in the minivan. Getting Devin in is quite a sight to see is all i can say!”

Now the minivan is having mechanical issues and is in need of a new transmission.

Devin’s all-around best solution is a new wheelchair accessible van.

The goal of the fundraiser is $10,000, and as of Thursday, Aug. 2 the total raised so far was $445.00.
