Every Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Des Moines Farmers Market, you can find great growing things – like trees, shrubs, plants and more – from Overland Enterprises. The business itself is located on a small urban lot north of Burien, where owners Mark and Susan Overholt have been growing rare and unusual trees, shrubs, rock garden plants and bulbs for over twenty five years. Mark’s training is in landscape architecture, while Susan has a Botany degree and volunteers as a King County Master Gardener. Together they not only know how to grow plants, but are proficient in landscape design and plant maintenance. They have discovered over the years through trial and error the best trees, shrubs, and groundcovers for small space gardens and containers. They have also selected plants that bloom for long periods or twice seasonally and have year round interest. Fifty varieties of Hen and Chicks are grown at their nursery. They are Cactus-like succulents that novice gardeners love. Hosta collectors will find they grow all the old favorites and the rare new introductions. Stop by their booth next time you are at the Des Moines Waterfront Market (Saturdays 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Marina), and be sure to ask them how to attract Hummingbirds year-round in the garden. Or come by and talk about any plant problem or situation. You can also check their website here for locations for their plant sales. ]]>
