Des Moines Man Charged with Arson for Starting Eastern Washinton Fire

A 22-year old Des Moines man was arraigned in Garfield County Thursday (Sept. 6) for second-degree arson in connection with a fire that burned between 500 to 1,000 acres near Lower Granite Dam in eastern Washington Aug. 25.

Jarrell Banks-Canady, who was taking part in an outdoor gathering at nearby Illia Dunes, is believed to have been shooting off fireworks along the road. Sparks from the fireworks apparently startede the fire.

Banks-Canady plead “Not Guilty” and will appear in court again in two weeks.
