Up to 16 Shots Fired, Man Shot At in Mysterious Incident in Des Moines Mon.

Monday night (Oct. 15) around 11:24 p.m., reports of up to 16 gunshots fired in the vicinity of 21st South and Kent/Des Moines Road (map below) came into Des Moines Police, according to Barry Sellers of the DMPD.

Officers showed up quickly, and others were called due to the reports of shooting, making for a large police turnout.

But, “nobody knew where the shooting originated,” Sellers told The Waterland Blog.

And it appeared that nobody had been hit, nor had any shooting suspects found.

As police investigated the area, they located one man hiding in a nearby backyard from what he said were shooters who were after him.

“The victim told us he was standing at a bus stop with another man when a car pulled up, some guys got out and started shooting at him.,” Sellers said.

Police found bullet holes in three cars nearby – one with two.

However, the victim wasn’t hit. And the other man who was reported to be at the bus stop took off running.

Sellers added that while officers were interviewing the male victim, they heard additional gunshots in the area, west of their location.

These shots were investigated, but police only found evidence of four bullets.

No shooter was found, and the one man police interviewed refused to cooperate any further.

This incident is still under investigation.

We first heard about this via emails received from two WLB Readers:

“I live at Pinebrook Terrace Condo’s on Kent Des Moines Road and 21st Ave. At 11:30 Monday night there were gunshots fired. I guess they arrested one person. But can’t find any news on the event. Do you know?? Guess a lot of cars on 21st Ave have bullet holes in them.”

“Last night there was the sound of shots at least 2 different times in front of my home on Kent Des Moines Rd, and down the street. My kids didn’t wake me, but said there were “several police cars and they have friends that heard it too. Do you have any additional information?”
