‘Vehicular Assault’ Collision in Des Moines Sends Five to Hospital Saturday
A speeding vehicle driven by a 19-year old man crashed into a car in Des Moines on Saturday, Nov. 10, sending all the passengers to local hospitals, and causing life-threatening injuries to the 25-year old female driver.
The 25-year old driver was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with potential life threatening injuries, along with two occupants – a 14-year old male and 14-year old female – with very serious injuries.
Two other occupants of the victim’s vehicle were transported to St. Francis Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Des Moines Police say that around 3 p.m. on Saturday they responded to the two-vehicle collision which occurred in the intersection of S. 240 Street and 20th Ave South.
Investigators at the scene have determined the at-fault vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed traveling southbound on 20th Ave South, failed to stop for a stop sign, and struck the victim’s vehicle, which was traveling eastbound on S 240th Street.
The 19-year old male at fault driver was transported to Highline Medical Center where he was treated and released into police custody. He was booked into SCORE Jail for Investigation of four (4) counts of vehicular assault pending further investigation.
The four other occupants of the at fault vehicle were not injured and are cooperating with the investigators.
