South King Fire & Rescue Receives 11th Consecutive Clean State Audit

South King Fire & Rescue announced this week that they just completed their annual financial audit with the Washington State Auditor’s office, and are happy to report that the report “has no findings,” as noted directly from the State office in their exit conference.

“Our citizens expect and appreciate our fiscal responsibility,” said long time Fire Chief Al Church. “Our finance office works hard under our CFO David Lawson and does an excellent job following policies carefully drafted by our administrative team and approved by our Board of Fire Commissioners.”

The required audit was for fiscal year 2011 and is part of a regular annual review of the department’s financial practices and finances conducted by the Washington State Auditor’s Office.

“We are again pleased with these results,” said Board Chairman Bill Gates. “This audit is the 11th consecutive year that no findings were reported. We recognize that our citizens passed an excess levy this past year and expect us to be good stewards of their tax dollars. We will not let them down.”

What about the almost $1 million stolen from the fire department during that time by a fire department employee? The State Auditor didn’t catch that. Why would they put any confidence in any of the state auditor’s findings or be proud of such findings? It is a false pride.
