A beloved Seal Mosaic piece of art (pictured above) made by seniors with the 2004 Chihuly Seniors ‘Making Art’ program is missing from the Des Moines Senior Center, and they’d like it back!

“Four sea creature mosaics were created by Des Moines seniors and hung on the south side exterior of the senior center,” said Sue Padden, Senior Services Manager for City of Des Moines. “For eight years the mosaics have been enjoyed by all of the community who visit the senior activity center. And then, the center was broken into. With the arrival of warmer weather, it was noticed that the thief had also taken the mosaic seal from the patio area.”

An earlier break-in at center in late February resulted in the theft of their Wii Equipment, which was recovered by police within two weeks.

But the seal mosaic is still missing.

“If you see our seal, made of blue and white tiles with a blue marble eye, size approximately 2′ x 2′, please contact the Des Moines Police Department at 206.878-3301,” Padden added. “If you have our mosaic seal, please return it, no questions asked.”

The Des Moines Senior Center is located at 2045 S. 216th Street, adjacent to the Post Office (map below); office hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
