‘Dance for Parkinson’s’ at Des Moines Activity Center starts Monday, June 10

‘Dance for Parkinson’s’ classes will take place at the Des Moines Activity Center on Mondays from June 10 through July 29.

“These classes are based on the Dance for PD program developed by Mark Morris Dance Group and Brooklyn Parkinson Group,” reads an announcement. “Classes are sponsored by Seattle Theatre Group, Spectrum Dance Theatre, Evergreen Hospital Medical Center, Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation, City of Seattle Lifelong Recreation and Des Moines Legacy Foundation.”

The cost is $5 for the 8-week program.

In this eight-week program, you will stretch and strengthen muscles, focusing on balance and rhythm through many styles of dance. Working with professional dancers specially trained in the Dance for PD method, you’ll learn how to use thought, imagination, eyes, ears and touch to control movement. Whether seated or standing, people with Parkinson’s disease, caregivers and friends are encouraged to explore dance movements in a welcoming environment with live music. No dance experience necessary.
