Des Moines Farmers Market Vendor Profile: Golden Glen Creamery

You asked for it and it was a long time coming – but the Des Moines Waterfront Famers Market is proud to bring shoppers the Golden Glen Creamery located in Bow Washington, which will be at opening day this Saturday, June 1!

Their Artisan cheeses and butters are all-natural, handcrafted and made with milk fresh from the small, healthy herd of Holstein, Guernsey and Jersey cows right at the creamery. Besides varieties of cheddar other products are Old Gouda, Very Old Gouda, Fresh Mozzarella, Farmstead Feta, Judy’s Parm (Italian hard cheese) and Flavored Curds.

They pasteurize their milk using an older form of pasteurizing called “vat pasteurization”. This method uses lower heat and longer, slower heating times to gently pasteurize the milk without altering the taste or any of the good stuff. The ingredients are straight-forward: no dyes, emulsifiers, stabilizers or preservatives. The milk comes from cows that are perfect just the way they are! The farm does not inject the cows with the synthetic forms of BST or BGH.

While sampling their wonderful line up different chesses at their booth, ask them about their Cheese of the Month Club which comes in three different options: 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month. Each month features a different combination of 3-4 of Golden Glen Creamery’s artisan, farmstead products. “Farmstead” means that the entire farm contains all buildings and land and is the lone process location for its products.

The Des Moines Farmers Market runs from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. every Saturday through Oct., and is located at 22307 Dock Ave South:
