The first Kids Fishing Derby was a huge success with 13 kids participating, ages 4 thru 9. A big shout-out to fisherman first-class Del Rivero for organizing this great kids learning activity. To close out the festivities the Waterland Parade through downtown starts at 5:45pm with the kiddie’s parade. Box Nature Sushi who use all natural ingredients in its menu. There seafood ingredients are all sustainable and non-farmed. They use natural stuff and are MSG free. The soy sauce is their original blend with less salt and is thicker. Click on their name for the menu. Outside of the Box a (paleo truck) short for paleolithic diet, is also popularly known as the caveman diet or hunter-gather diet. Focusing on grass-fed pasture raised meats, vegetables, fruit, fungi, roots, and nuts, and excludes grains, legumes, dairy products, refined salt and refined sugar. Rounding out are Stella Fiore Pizza, Skinny Phoenix, Evolution Revolution, Jemil’s Big Easy, Fish Basket. To see when the prepared food vendors are at the market, log onto market vendors. COMMUNITY GROUPS Des Moines Dollars for Scholars is a locally operated and supported, nonprofit, tax-exempt scholarship foundation. Operated by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, the purpose of Dollars for Scholars is to expand access to educational opportunities by involving and assisting our community in the support of students and in the encouragement of educational achievement. They will be selling 50-50 raffle tickets to raise funds for their program. UPCOMING EVENTS Mark your calendar for August 10th, as our annual Health & Fitness Day where Des Moines local businesses present their specialties. Look for the booth with demonstrations on the half hour. Don’t forget the Des Moines Area Food Bank “Picnic in the Park” continues their free summer lunch program for all school age kids. Look for them from noon to 1pm in the grassy area next to the marina office. And if you can’t wait until noon, there will free snacks from 10 to 10:30am.  A child does not need to be a Highline Public School student to participate. They will be there every Saturday until school starts.  If you would like to volunteer to help with this program, contact the Food Bank 206-878-2660. Seniors don’t forget, if you qualify and are using the food bank you can receive a voucher for the market to purchase fresh fruit and produce, this program is paid for by the Des Moines Legacy Foundation, and distributed by the Des Moines Food Bank.
