Des Moines man pleads ‘Guilty’ to 2011 shooting death of Jayme Thomas, 19


A Des Moines man has pleaded ‘Guilty’ as charged for a shooting that killed Jayme Thomas, 19, and wounded a 24-year-old man in Des Moines on November 5, 2011 (read our previous coverage here).

The shooting occurred following an argument between two groups of people in a parking lot in Des Moines, when Thomas was shot and killed as she sat in the backseat of a vehicle in the 800 block of Redondo Way South.

Johnny Rourn pleaded guilty on Friday (Aug. 2) to Murder in the Second Degree and Assault in the Second Degree. Both charges include firearm sentencing enhancements.

The sentence range, including the sentencing enhancements, is 240 to 340 months in prison. Prosecutors will recommend 340 months in prison when Rourn, 30, is sentenced on Oct. 4 at the Maleng Regional Justice Center.
