UPDATE: Water District #54 ‘boil advisory’ still in effect

On Monday (Sept. 23), officials from Water District #54 announced the the ‘boil water’ advisory is still in effect, and “will remain in effect until further notice.”

Bottled water continues to be available at the District offices, located at 922 South 219th Street in Des Moines (map below).

“Within the next 24 to 36 hours, the District hopes to have enough information to allow it to determine when the boil advisory can be lifted and businesses in its service area can re-open,” reads an announcement. “The District is working with the Department of Health and other community partners to implement a plan to lift the advisory as soon as possible. The plan includes continued short-term chlorination of the water along with flushing of the system and increased frequency of water quality testing.”

Customers and businesses can call the District’s offices at (206) 878-7210 for additional information, or check the City of Des Moines website (www.desmoineswa.gov) or the City’s government channel 21 for information regarding the situation.

The District serves customers in the core of Des Moines and the far south section of Normandy Park in an area from Puget Sound, east to 13th Ave South and Kent-Des Moines Road north to South 212th Street.

I would only advise all, that we need to trust our water providers as they are not going to intentionally do us harm. One “Oh crap” should not wipe out a splendid record of providing the best water around. Patience and understanding now. Our pot is almost boiling over as I type…bye.

Pat, your neighborhood is unaffected. Your water is safe to use without boiling 🙂

Thank you for this information but I really would like to know that this comes from our Water District Information Office. We have a “reservoir” of boiled water now and if not needed then we can just unboil it. Hmmm. So, thank you Mr. Guest!

Pat – You have mentioned in previous posts that you live in Huntignton park. Water district 54 is a small area. The borders are 212th to the north, 14 Ave to the east, and Kent Des Moines to the south.

Huntington park, to my knowledge is about 10-15 blocks south of the affected area.
