A 50-year old Des Moines man was sentenced Friday (Nov. 1) to an exceptional sentence of 30 years in prison for a brutal assault on his girlfriend in 2012.
Last month, a jury convicted Roosevelt Reed of Assault in the First Degree as charged.
The King County Prosecutor’s Office says the defendant beat his girlfriend severely, fracturing five bones in her face and leaving her barely conscious.
The jury also found that the crime was an aggravated domestic violence offense and that the defendant committed the offense shortly after being released from incarceration.
Reed had just been released from prison after serving a 15-year sentence for fracturing a previous girlfriend’s skull with a cinderblock. Although the defendant’s standard sentence range was 20 to 26 years, prosecutors requested a 30-year exceptional sentence.
The case was handled by Senior DPA Shaya Calvo.
