If you saw police activity on or around Des Moines Beach Park Trail on Saturday (Nov. 23), it was due to a search for human remains.

“On Oct. 29, a person came to the Des Moines Police Department and reported he found a human skull back in 1975,” Commander Bob Bohl told The Waterland Blog. “At that time, the person lived in a home located in the 21200 block of Des Moines Memorial Drive and the skull was found near his property. The police were not contacted at the time. Recently, he saw a report about missing persons who have not been located and felt now was the time to come forward with the information about the skull.”

Detectives followed up and were able to confirm some of the information received, then on Saturday, police, along with the assistance of the King County SAR (Search and Rescue) team searched the area for human remains.

After an extensive search, no human remains were located.

The Des Moines Detectives and King County SAR will meet in the near future to determine if another search of the area is necessary.
