SW King Coalition Against Trafficking announces new educational program

The SW King Coalition Against Trafficking (SWKCAT) – a local group aimed at stopping sex trafficking in our area – announced this week that they will be rolling out a new educational program called ‘Deceptions.’

Carri Litowitz and Candace Nault recently met with Highline School Administrator Carla Jackson and about 20 others in the district to show them the program. ‘Deceptions’ was made by Jim Grenfell (Aware Inc), and is a three day, one hour a day, interactive program on the grooming process that is used by pimps to lure kids into the commercial sex trade. It is based on “Melissa’s” story told by her in her own words. Highline Administration has approved the program to be presented in the schools.

Federal Way Coalition (FWCAT) has trained 5000 kids in the last two years on the Deceptions program, with three schools on the waiting list.

If you are interested in becoming a presenter in the schools, there will be a training March 29 in Seattle; the cost is $150 which includes the program material, contact Carri at [email protected].

“If this does not interest you, join us at our next meeting for other opportunities, we are joining with Highline College for several awareness events this spring!” Carri said.

The coalition encompasses Des Moines, Normandy Park, Burien, West Seattle and SeaTac.

“We are working on stopping sex trafficking in our cities,” Carri added. “Every police department in these cities have an officer or two as members of the coalition! We have meetings the first Monday of the month at Wesley Terrace on 216th street (the one at the traffic light).”
