Jim Langston chosen as 2014 Des Moines Waterland Parade Grand Marshal

In recognition of his many years of service to the Des Moines community, Jim Langston has been selected as the 2014 Waterland Grand Parade Grand Marshal.

Mr. Langston is a fourth generation Des Moines resident. His great-grandparents founded the Children’s Industrial Home of Des Moines in 1908. Jim retired after 30 years as a public school educator, and is currently vice-president and program chair of the Des Moines Historical Society. He is an active member of the Des Moines Odd Fellows Lodge #305, President of the Hillgrove Cemetery Association, Chairman of the City of Des Moines Performing Arts Committee and he serves on the Board of Directors of All Aboard Washington, a non-profit rail advocacy group.

The Des Moines Waterland Grand parade starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 19. The parade route begins at 240th and Marine View Dr S and continues through downtown Des Moines to 216th.
