In recognition of his many years of service to the Des Moines community, Jim Langston has been selected as the 2014 Waterland Grand Parade Grand Marshal. Mr. Langston is a fourth generation Des Moines resident. His great-grandparents founded the Children’s Industrial Home of Des Moines in 1908. Jim retired after 30 years as a public school educator, and is currently vice-president and program chair of the Des Moines Historical Society. He is an active member of the Des Moines Odd Fellows Lodge #305, President of the Hillgrove Cemetery Association, Chairman of the City of Des Moines Performing Arts Committee and he serves on the Board of Directors of All Aboard Washington, a non-profit rail advocacy group. The Des Moines Waterland Grand parade starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 19. The parade route begins at 240th and Marine View Dr S and continues through downtown Des Moines to 216th.
