PHOTOS: Mid-Sound Summer Social kicks off six weeks of “Relaxed Racing”

The Three Tree Point Yacht Club kicked off their 2014 Mid-Sound Summer Social racing series this past Thursday evening under beautiful blue skies just outside of the Des Moines Marina.

This annual racing series consists of six weeks of what’s billed as “relaxed rules racing” with a heavy dose of socializing. After each race, participants meet up for a BBQ at the guest dock.

In addition to the fun, the events also serve as a fundraiser for local organizations Hospitality House, the Des Moines Food Bank and The City of Des Moines Youth Sailing Program.

The races will happen at the Des Moines Marina, Thursday, 17, 24, 31, August 7, and 14 at 6:30pm. You don’t need to be a member of the Three Tree Yacht Club to participate.

More information is available at the club website.

Local photographer Michael Brunk attended the opening race of the season aboard the Amazing Grace courtesy of Don and Kristie Brame.

He put together the following gallery of photos. You can click individual thumbnails to view high resolution versions.
