Wanolitto’s Musings for this Saturday’s Des Moines Farmers Market


Despite the cloudy beginning and all the other events in the area last weekend (Bite of Seattle, Tacoma Food Truck Rodeo & others), 6,000 shoppers basked in the later sun and were getting ready to take in all the Waterland festivities.

The Des Moines Police Foundation would like to thank all the people who stopped by their booth and donated to their current project of helping leukemia victim, 6 year old Honorary Chief, Moses Stevens. There still is time to take in the Mariners Law Enforcement Day game on August 10th. Here are the community groups for this week: Friends of the Woodmont Library will be selling used books and taking used book donations. Look for the Library 2Go Bus with a wide range of library services. Access and Outreach with information on how to apply for assistance for the most vulnerable in King County.

First time at the market is King Conservation District. They are a non-regulatory, special purpose district funded through a per parcel fee by King County landowners to help promote conservation of resources build a sustainable regional food system, expand our green infrastructure/tree canopy, and restore shorelines and habitat for salmon and other wildlife – all through education, grants, and technical assistance.

Music this week is James Lindsey from 10 – noon and The Fabulous Mojo Kings Blues Band from noon – 2pm.

The Des Moines Area Food Bank “Picnic in the Park” continues their free summer lunch program for all school age kids. Look for them in the grassy area next to the marina office. They will be there every Saturday until school starts.
