On May 14, the City of Des Moines proclaimed June as “Music4Life Month.”
The local program – “Highline Music4Life” – provides musical instruments to fifth and sixth graders who qualify for free and reduced-priced meals. In special circumstances, they can also provide instruments to older children, as well.
Highline Music4Life also provides violins, violas, guitars, and ukuleles to support new string instrument programs at the middle school level. The program’s expressed goal is to enable as many young people as possible to take advantage of instrumental music opportunities. People are encouraged to support this program by donating instruments and funds. Details on ways to help can be found at www.Music4Life.org.
For the past several years, The Rotary Club of Des Moines/Normandy Park has been holding a major fundraiser called the Poverty Bay Blues & Brews Festival, which donates a majority of the event’s net revenues to benefit Highline Music4Life. This year, the 6th annual Poverty Bay Blues & Brews event will take place at the Des Moines Creek Park on Aug. 29, 2015.
