Last Saturday several people said to me “this looks just like Opening Day all over again.” Indeed, for the Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market the second market of the season saw 6,000 shoppers enjoying another beautiful sunny day at the Des Moines Marina. It is the biggest two day market opening in its history, in visitors as well as vendor sales. Thank you, community, for all your support! Market manager Rikki Marhol commented “a lot of vendors ran out of goods before 1pm, especially the farmers that had the first of the crop berries.” The market wines sales that fund the Market Foundation had record two day sales also. The Des Moines Food Bank free summer lunch program starts this Saturday. Look for the great volunteers serving up sack lunches in the grass lawn by the marina office from 11am on. Music: Lip Service Food Trucks: Hallavel Falafel, Fusion on the Run, Mini the Dough-Nut, Raney Bros BBQ, Stella Fiore Pizza and Jemil’s. Community Groups: Mt Rainer High School Cheer and Quiz Bowl. The groups from MRHS are also volunteers you see around putting up canopies, tables and things. Say thank you to them. Seniors don’t forget that the market and the King Conservation District, along with partner Senior Services, are offering the HYDE Shuttle providing local door to door transportation to the market to seniors 55 and older and people with disabilities of all ages living in Des Moines, Normandy Park, Burien and this year Sea-Tac. Call 206-727-6262 for information and days of service. Time is running out to reserve your space, so don’t forget to get your application for the Clutter to Cash sale on June 27th.
