Man in critical condition as shots fired at homeless family in Des Moines


A homeless family was shot at by an unknown gunman in Des Moines early Christmas Eve (Thursday, Dec. 24), sending one man to the hospital in critical condition, the Des Moines Police Department announced.

Police say that a father, mother and son were at an apartment complex near S. 216th Street and 30th Ave S. (map below) around 1 a.m. when someone walked up and fired at least 10 shots at them.

The father was shot in the leg, and is in critical condition.

The mother and son were not hit.

The shooting suspect fled the scene and is still at large, police said.

Detectives are still working on the case.
