[EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a Letter to the Editor, written by a Reader. It does not necessarily reflect the opinion of The Waterland Blog nor its staff:]
Our fundraising drive to save three Normandy Park police department is off to a solid start. Over 100 donors have contributed nearly $51,000. Comments from donors on the GoFundMe page are heartwarming: “Thank you for keeping us safe”, “We appreciate our police department”, and more.
Also, we have some additional good news: Alaska Airlines is matching employee donations, and after the first of the year we anticipate a positive answer from Boeing about their company match. Other companies are also matching employee donations since Friends of Normandy Park is a 501c3. At many companies, donations can be matched as long as the paperwork is submitted up to one year after the donation is made, not after matching is approved.
With the end of the calendar year just a few days away, we want to remind everyone that there’s still time to make a donation that for most people will be deductible from one’s income tax. Friends of Normandy Park is mailing receipts for tax purposes to all donors. This receipt can also be submitted to Alaska and other matching companies.
To make a donation by check, look for the mailing address on the Donate Now page of our website: http://www.supportnormandyparkpolice.com/. This is our preferred method for major donations. For a 2015 tax deduction, the letter with a check needs to be postmarked on December 31 or sooner.
We can also take donations by credit card. There are two ways to do this. One: send email to [email protected] . We will meet you in person with a secure credit card reader.
Or two, go to the Go Fund Me page and make your donation online: https://www.gofundme.com/supportnppolice
We wish everyone a Happy New Year and thank everyone for their support!
