Robbery results in shooting, injury & school lockdowns in Des Moines

Police are reporting that a robbery and shooting – which injured one person – also resulted in the lockdowns of Midway Elementary, Pacific Middle and Mt. Rainier High School in Des Moines Friday afternoon, Jan. 15.

Police were searching for the robbery/shooting suspect around an apartment complex in the 22400 block of Pacific Highway South (map below) between 2–2:30 p.m., and advised the lockdowns, which were lifted later.

Reports are that one man was found with at least one gunshot wound, and another was pistol-whipped. The victim who was shot did not suffer life-threatening injuries, police said. The other victim was treated on the scene.

The suspect is apparently in his 20s, and a K-9 unit was brought in to assist.
