WSDOT crews fix bridge; Des Moines Creek Trail has officially re-opened

An overhanging strut on the left was found to have moved in late January. It was fixed by WSDOT crews on Wednesday, April 13.

Photo released on Wednesday (April 13) shows the strut pinned into place.

Washington State Department of Transportation bridge crews were out on Wednesday (April 13), and they moved the strut cap back into place and pinned the cap to the strut on the bridge over the Des Moines Creek Trail.

As of 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, the trail under the bridge was officially re-opened, after nearly three months of being closed.

As we previously reported, the City of Des Moines closed the trail below the bridge in late January due to movement detected in the concrete caps that sit atop struts on the bridge.

City staff told The Waterland Blog that the closure was prompted by a citizen concern regarding the movement.
