Des Moines Yacht Club’s South Sound Opening Day will be Saturday, May 14


Celebrate South Sound Opening Day of Boating at the Des Moines Yacht Club on Saturday, May 14, 2016, with a day full of marine-oriented exhibits and demonstrations, tours of local boats, food vendors, boat building for the kids, and live music.

This celebration is free to the Public from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

A formal Opening Day ceremony will take place at 2 p.m., complete with local City representatives, bagpipes, flag ceremony, visiting yacht club dignitaries, and a blessing for the 2016 boating season.

Saturday evening features a social hour in the ballroom at 4pm (BYOB), followed by a seafood chowder feast at 5pm. At 7pm, dance to music by the Three Tree Point Blues Band! Cost for the chowder feast, music and dancing is $25/person; $10 for children ages 6-12. BYOB for all evening events. On Sunday, May 15, from 9 a.m. until Noon, all are invited to attend the annual South Sound Breakfast at the Des Moines Yacht Club. Past Commodores serve up pancakes, eggs, ham, fruit, juice and coffee. Adults $6; Children under 12 are free.
