DMFM-Poster-2016-2 Last Saturday, the Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market was a little calmer than opening day. It was a typical June weather day, with sun, clouds, wind and an occasional rain drop. It was nice to see a lot of new fruits and vegetables available from the farmers. It is too bad the strawberries ripened too early this year. Last Saturday’s might be the last of them. Look for more fruits to arrive and the fresh corn is just around the corner. The Des Moines Area Food Bank “Picnic in the Park” starts their free summer lunch program for all school age kids. Look for them from noon to 1pm in the grassy area next to the marina office. And if you can’t wait until noon, they will serve free snacks from 10 to 10:30am. A child does not need to be a Highline Public School student to participate. They will be there every Saturday until school starts. If you would like to volunteer to help with this program, contact the Food Bank 206-878-2660.
