Resurrection Lutheran Church donates $4,941 to Des Moines Police Foundation
This past Sunday (Oct. 9), Resurrection Lutheran Church presented Chaplain Lou Cox of the Des Moines Police with a check for $4,941.11 to benefit the police department’s Chaplains’ Fund.
This fund is used to help victims of domestic violence who need to be removed from a dangerous environment and given temporary shelter and supplies (see video below).
The members of Resurrection are committed to helping in the community by donating their time and a portion of their offerings to local organizations that are helping those in need. In addition to the Chaplains Fund a donation of $4464.69 was given to the Des Moines Food Bank in May. Members have served at the Des Moines food bank and at various events such as Brews and Blues, Des Moines Waterland Festival and the Back to School Fair.
In August the Church hosted a Block Party for its neighbors with food, music and a big toy for the kids. The church is also a designated Red Cross Emergency Shelter in the event of a natural disaster.
