Des Moines Legacy Foundation’s annual Bayside Brunch will be Sunday, Nov. 6

The Des Moines Legacy Foundation’s 17th annual Bayside Brunch will be this coming Sunday, Nov. 6 at Anthony’s HomePort Restaurant.

This year’s theme is Margaritaville, and proceeds will benefit local senior programs.

Tickets are $75 or $150, and can be purchased by calling (206) 878-1642.

Here’s more on this fundraiser from organizers:

The Meals on Wheels tires keep turning and the rims on the Hyde Shuttle buses keep going ’round and ’round for Des Moines and Normandy Park Seniors thanks to the Des Moines Legacy Foundation. But the charity needs your help to avoid being stranded with a budgetary flat tire.

Last year United Way changed its funding priorities and slashed nearly $800,000 countywide for senior services. Here in Des Moines and Normandy Park, that would have meant five-month waiting periods for Meals On Wheels applicants. That would have meant significantly fewer options for getting to doctor’s appointments, drugstores and grocery stores for scores of our seniors who rely on the Hyde Shuttle to continue living independently.

When confronted with the July 1 service cutback date, the Des Moines Legacy Foundation responded with a unanimous NO. But it meant the No. 1 fundraiser for aid to disadvantaged kids and seniors would have to come up with an additional $16,000 per year. That’s why it is so important that we have a positive response to our 17th annual Bayside Brunch on Nov. 6. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, we rely totally on generous donations from the community and funds raised through events such as the Bayside Brunch.

With our incredible partners at Anthony’s HomePort Restaurant, we offer a gourmet brunch, exciting raffles and silent auctions, and an all-around fun time on the first Sunday of November. Tickets are still available and this is a great way to help your less-fortunate neighbors. Tickets are $75 per person. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to Noon on Nov. 6. The theme this year is Margaritaville and attendees are encouraged to come in costume.

Worried about it interfering with the Seahawks game? Don’t! The Hawks play Monday night.
