Des Moines Police arrest parents, charge them for homicide of 6-month old baby
The Des Moines Police Department announced Friday (Nov. 4) that they had arrested two parents believed to be responsible for the February 2016 homicide of their 6-month old baby.
Both were booked into jail Thursday on charges of second degree murder and first degree criminal maltreatment.
Police said that on Feb. 16, 2016, the parents of the baby brought him to St. Francis Hospital as he was cold and unresponsive.
Medical personnel immediately began CPR.
Despite their efforts, medics were unable to regain a pulse, and the baby was declared deceased.
Further examination of the child revealed several areas of unexplained bruised skin.
After an autopsy of the child the King County Medical Examiner ruled the child’s death a homicide.
At the time, the family resided in the City of Des Moines and the case was referred to the Des Moines Police Department. After several months of investigation, Des Moines police arrested a 26-year old male and a 25-year old female.
Both suspects have been booked into the King County Jail for Felony/Murder in the Second Degree (Criminal Mistreatment in the First Degree).
