UPDATE: Lemonade Stand Fundraiser girls help ‘Shop with a Cop’ Wednesday

Back on Aug. 15, two sisters from Des Moines – Natalie & Lilah Nutting – hosted a Lemonade Stand Fundraiser to raise funds for the Des Moines Police Foundation Shop with a Cop Event.

They successfully raised over $5,000!

The Des Moines Police Foundation will host their ‘Shop with a Cop’ event this Wednesday, Dec. 14, from 7 a.m. to approximately 8:30 a.m. at Fred Meyer (25250 Pacific Hwy S, Kent), and both sisters will be there helping the Des Moines Police Foundation with the event and watching kids purchase gifts for their families.

The girls started off their summer with a ‘Summer Bucket List’ of items they wanted to accomplish. One item on the list was having a Lemonade Stand to support a local charity. The girls then made a list of the local charities they would like to support and then narrowed it down to the Des Moines Food Bank, Des Moines Legacy Foundation and the Des Moines Police Foundation.

Their final decision was the Des Moines Police Foundation as they recalled being able to attend the Shop with a Cop Event last year and loved helping at the event so much they wanted to see how they could help this year!

Visitors to the stand included, Superior Court Judge Veronica Galvan, Washington State Representative Tina Orwall, City of Des Moines Mayor Matt Pina, City Council Member and Former Mayor Dave Kaplan, City Council Member and South King Fire & Rescue Deputy Chief Vic Pennington, Highline School Board Vice President Bernie Dorsey, numerous South King Fire & Rescue Fire Fighters, numerous Des Moines Police Officers as well as friends, neighbors and fellow community members.

The girls were honored at the Des Moines City Council Meeting on August 18th by receiving the Community Star Award for 2016 for Improving Public Safety and Quality of Life in their Community. The Presentation was made by Des Moines Police Chief George Delgado. The girls received a standing ovation from the audience and Des Moines City Council Members.

The Des Moines Police Foundation was established in 2014 to raise awareness and provide recognition and support of the Des Moines Police Department by receiving and administering funds exclusively for charitable, scientific, or educational purposes, without pecuniary gain or profit (either direct or indirect) to its members, all within the meaning of Section 501c3 of the Internal Revenue Law.

Both girls attend North Hill Elementary School in Des Moines. Natalie is 10 and is in the 4th grade and Lilah is 8 and is in the 3rd grade.

Their father, Jeremy Nutting, serves on the De Moines City Council and their mother, Yvonne Nutting, serves on both the Des Moines Legacy Foundation Board, the Des Moines Police Foundation Board and is an extremely active member in the North Hill Elementary School PTSA where she served the last two years as their President.
