DES MOINES: On Wednesday morning, Aug. 15, a son shot and killed his mother before shooting and killing himself in Des Moines.
Police say that just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, Des Moines Police Officers responded to a shooting at 4th and S. 213th.
The 911 caller was a family member who was checking on the residence.
Arriving police officers located two deceased shooting victims in the yard at this location.
A suicide note was located on scene, as was the identification of both victims.
The relationship of the two victims is mother/son.
A handgun was located in the hand of the deceased male. Investigators are treating the scene as a murder-suicide.
The Des Moines Police Department has all available resources on scene to investigate this tragedy.
“There is no threat to the public and no one else is outstanding,” Des Moines Police said. “This is an isolated incident specific to this family and this residence.”
“Our hearts go out to the victims, their family and friends. We want to thank the public and our news partners for their patience as this investigation takes place,” police said.
