The City of Des Moines’ Emergency Management Team has been working with first responders to implement recommended precautionary measures from Gov. Inslee, the Center for Disease Control, World Health Organization, King County Emergency Operations Center and State and County Departments of Health.

“We are taking every precaution to limit exposure to protect our citizens,” the city said in a statement released Thursday, Mar. 12, 2020. “This is being accomplished by following the directives and guidance of our State, County and local agencies.”

For these reasons, programs and classes have been cancelled, and the following City Facilities have been closed:

      Senior Activity Center Staff is working with Catholic Senior Services to continue the lunch program allowing individuals to drive up and take away their lunch. For individuals unable to drive, meal delivery is available upon request.

“I encourage you to keep informed as to what’s happening on King County Public Health’s website, www.kingcounty.gov/depts/health and ask everyone to self-monitor, call your care provider if you are not feeling well, maintain patience and be informed with facts and not fear,” Mayor Matt Pina said.

“We all look forward to the return of normalcy, but know that our resources, at this time, are critical for ensuring a safe future.
