On Friday, April 3, 2020, the City of Des Moines announced that it is closing the parking lots in the Marina and Beach Park areas.

“We need to minimize gathering areas where safe social distancing has not always been practiced,” the city said in a statement. “The highest priority of the City is to protect the health of our community and our residents. As we do everything possible to observe the Governor’s ‘Stay Home, Stay Healthy’ order, we are no longer able to accommodate parking in the Marina and Beach Park parking lots.”

Despite the parking ban, the Marina area and Beach Park – including the Des Moines Creek Trail – will all remain open to the public.

Additionally, the Quarterdeck Café is open for pick-up only and vehicles will still be able to access the café.

All are asked to please observe social distancing if you choose to walk, jog or bike in these areas.

The northern trailhead of the Des Moines Creek trail is owned by the City of SeaTac and has been closed.

“We appreciate your cooperation and anticipate everyone will do their part to reduce the spread of the COVID – 19 virus.

“Please stay safe and stay healthy. We are all in this together. Just 6 feet apart.”
