Your DOUBLE Daily Dose of Natural Beauty, courtesy Advertiser Zenith Holland Nursery – Flower Power Inspired by Summer Color Sizzlers Osteospermum:

As we celebrate the unofficial beginning of summer, we know that we won’t really see summer rise for another few weeks, but we can dream and begin enjoying some dazzling summer color with bright Osteospermum. These two examples are on the vivid part of the spectrum and call to mind that famous summer of love. Flower power wow!

To enjoy these bright blooms, plant in full sun in well drained soil. They will enjoy a fertilizing feed about every two weeks; a liquid fertilizer is recommended. If you invest some attention toward dead-heading the blooms when spent, you will be rewarded with a full eight weeks of color as new blooms appear.

Osteospermum, or African Daisy, are great in container scapes. You can pair them with ageratum and petunia, perhaps with a foil of dusty miller to cool down hot color combinations. Around here you will likely only be able to enjoy these as half hardy annuals, but in the right location and with a bit of protection you may be able to coax an overwintering. Whether or not you only get one season with them, they can’t help but set a cheerful tone with their bright hues.
