Your Daily Dose of Natural Beauty, courtesy Advertiser Zenith Holland Nursery – Osteospermum in autumnal tones:

This quick shot highlights some of the wide variety of colors you will find in African Daisies, or officially: Osteospermum. Most of the colors we have shared in our series of posts on this sun-loving bloomer have been quite vibrant in oranges and purples, however you can find Osteospermum in a variety of other tones including the dusty Sienna to yellow variegated combo here.

Love the unusual tones but not sure how to work them into your garden design? We have often been puzzled by similar situations until we spent a little time looking at color theory. The chart below graphically depicts some of the color relationships you can use when designing your garden… or anything really.

Color theory is a set of principles for working with colors and creating harmonious combinations or mixtures. For example you can create combinations which are “analogous”, where the colors are all similar to one another but are different tones from deeper to lighter. Or you could select “complementary” tones which are basically opposite from one another on the color wheel and will therefore pleasantly balance one another. There are quite a few possibilities. Why not take a look and consider how to create your own backyard masterpiece?
