A 28-year old man was shot and killed in Des Moines on Thanksgiving night – Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020 – and a 24-year old woman called 911 and claimed she pulled the trigger

Des Moines Police say that at approximately 8:53 p.m., Officers were dispatched to the Silverwood Apartments located in the 2800 block of 30th Avenue South (map below) for two reports of an illegal discharge.

These calls were quickly followed up with a 911 report of a male subject laying near the entryway to the Silverwood complex. Reports stated the male subject had been shot. The 911 caller stated the male subject was not breathing.

A 24-year old female resident of Des Moines called 911 to say she was responsible for the shooting. Officers quickly arrived and began performing life-saving measures on the 28-year old male. He was transported from the scene by King County Medic One.

Unfortunately, the male subject did not survive his injuries.

“The 24-year old female was detained by police and the firearm believed to have been used in this incident was recovered,” Detective Sergeant David Mohr said. “The female suspect has been interviewed by Des Moines PD Detectives. She had been released pending further investigation.”
