This is it, the last day of the 2013 market season! And, oh what a day it will be. It’s our 7th Annual Chili Cook-Off where competing teams try to win your taste buds over. The Cook-Off is family friendly and is the culminating event for the Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market. It is a fun and delicious fund raiser for the Market Foundation, Des Moines Dollars for Scholars and Southwest Seattle Business & Professional Women’s Foundation. We will also be collecting donations for the Des Moines Area Food Bank and the Food Bank Back Pack Program, so if you are able, please bring a donation. Chili is served on a “first come basis”, starting at 11am and is served until 1pm, or until it runs out. Prizes are awarded for the top three finishers, voted by the tasters. A prize will also be awarded to the Best Team Theme. A $5 taster fee gets you samples of several different kinds of chili, sample bowl, spoon, wet nap and the chance to vote for your favorite. There will be no wine tasting this Saturday, as all the market’s wine has been sold. The Market Foundation wishes to thank all who purchased these potables. There still are some of my cookbooks left. I have combined all my cooking with wine recipes, along with “how to cook with wine” guide in one neat little booklet that will make a great Christmas gift for $5.00. Also a great $5.00 gift is the Legacy Foundation’s 2014 Des Moines Calendars with great photos from the city’s official photographer, Council Member Carmen Scott. Food Truck Scene Some old favorites are back this week on the food truck scene: Skinny Phoenix, Jemil’s Hallava Falafel and Stella Fiore Wood Fired Pizza. Sponsor Corner Fernwood at the Park is an all-inclusive independent senior living residence. Stop by their booth and see why it’s devoted staff is providing unrivaled service, compassion, care and the unique feeling of being right at home. They call it The Holiday Touch, and it’s what makes senior living at Holiday Retirement so special. And, don’t forget to thank them for their sponsorship. They, like other sponsors are what help to make the market what it is today.]]>
