The family of Carmen Scott regrets they had to cancel the community-wide Celebration of Life they had planned for her on May 31.

Instead the family will be holding a private memorial.

As many of our Readers may recall, Carmen passed away on Thanksgiving night 2014 (read about her here). Carmen had suffered from numerous brain tumors, which were diagnosed in May, 2013.

The paved trail running from the Marina to the turnaround at the start of the Des Moines Beach Park Trail was re-named in her honor. She long ago recognized its’ historical importance, as well as the importance of the Beach Park to the community of Des Moines.

Carmen’s obituary appeared in the Seattle times on Sunday, May 24 – read it here.

“Carmen truly loved the community of Des Moines and the support Carmen and the family received during her illness showed it was reciprocated,” said her sister Margaret Leaf. “The family can’t thank you enough.”
