Your Daily Dose of Natural Beauty, courtesy Advertiser Zenith Holland Nursery – Three Rockery Winners:

Take a look at this triple-header of plants bringing a rockery landscape to life: Sedum, Thyme and Lavender are the botanical stars of this view. Each helps to bring a spot of color and textural interest to this rockery slope.

Sedum is the low growing waxy plant. Available in a variety of shapes and colors these hardy easy care plants are also known as “stonecrop.” As their name implies, they do well in spaces between stones, particularly the low growing variety. You can learn more about them in this previous post.

Our other two stars are not only beautiful as ornamentals, but of course they are also very useful herbs! They flourish in sunny spots and have been used for centuries in culinary, medicinal and household preparations. We have had great success cultivating thyme in a sunny kitchen garden that gets morning rays and has good drainage. It has been so successful that we passed on some of our abundance to friends and found these as some of the popular uses for thyme to suggest: Use thyme to season breads, poultry, and beans. The delicate flavor also pairs well with eggs, tomatoes and cheese. A final suggestions is an aromatic herbal steam facial!

Whether in a rockery or border garden, these winners provide beauty and interest year after year.
