SUMMARY:Help send baby Coho salmon into Des Moines Creek on Saturday\, April 26
DESCRIPTION:All are invited to take part in a hands-on environmental event on Saturday\, April 26\, 2025\, as hundreds of baby Coho salmon raised at the SeaTac Community Center are released into Des Moines Creek. \nThe annual salmon release will take place starting at 10 a.m. at the Des Moines Creek Trail\, located at 2151 S. 200th Street (map below). \nFamilies and individuals of all ages are welcome to attend the free\, family-friendly event. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to pick out and name their own young salmon — known as fry — before gently sending them off into the creek to begin their journey to the sea. \nThe event is designed to foster environmental awareness and celebrate local ecosystems. \n“This is a great opportunity for kids and adults alike to connect with nature\, learn about salmon and the importance of clean waterways\, and take part in something that directly benefits our environment\,” city organizers said. \nIn addition to releasing the fry\, attendees can learn about the salmon life cycle\, how stormwater runoff affects local waterways\, and steps the public can take to protect water quality in SeaTac’s creeks and lakes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParking and Accessibility\n\n\n\nParking is limited at the trailhead\, so attendees are encouraged to park at nearby Angle Lake Park and use a free shuttle service that will run approximately every 10 minutes starting at 9:30 a.m. \nThe release site is a 7–8-minute walk from the trailhead. \nThe Angle Lake Link Light Rail station is also located less than half a mile from the trail\, though access from the station includes a steep hill. \nThe event will take place rain or shine\, and guests are encouraged to wear weather-appropriate clothing and footwear. \nPhotos from last year’s salmon release (courtesy the City of SeaTac) showed smiling children watching their named fish swim away into the creek.

SUMMARY:Enjoy a free Des Moines Sculpture Walk on Saturday afternoon\, April 26
DESCRIPTION:From our friends at WABI Burien: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Des Moines Waterland Walkers April Walk will be this Saturday\, April 26\, International Sculpture Day.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate & Time: Saturday\, April 26\, 2026. 12:00 PM \n\n\n\nPlace: Des Moines Library\, 21620 11th Ave S. in Des Moines. The library is open on Saturdays\, but there should be plenty of parking in that lot or the City Hall lot next door. There’s also street parking on 11th near the library. \n\n\n\nThere are a number of sculptures scattered throughout Des Moines\, and we will explore some of them. We’ll start by looking at the sculptures at the library and at City Hall and then walk down 216th Street to Marine View Drive and Big Catch Plaza. \n\n\n\nFrom there\, we’ll walk down to the marina and check out the sculptures along the way. We’ll head back on 7th and will end up at 1:00 at the George C Scott studio at 22220 7th Ave S. The studio will be open and will feature small sculpture displays\, craft projects\, and hands-on glass-making projects. \n\n\n\nAfter we visit the studio\, we’ll walk back to 216th and up the hill to return to the library. Walkers who would prefer to avoid the hill on the way back can drive down from the library after we visit the sculptures there at the beginning of the walk and park in Big Catch Plaza (the plaza with the Dollar Tree store) at the corner of 216th and Marine View Drive and meet the walking group in the parking lot near the Big Catch sculpture. \n\n\n\nThis walk is mostly flat on paved surfaces except for a hill at the end. There’s plenty of room to spread out so everyone can walk at their own pace. Four-legged friends are welcome to join us as well. \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions or need help finding us the day of the walk\, please text or call Anna Martin at (206) 501-5726. \n\n\n\nThanks so much!Anna

SUMMARY:International Sculpture Day returns to Des Moines on Saturday\, April 26 with hands-on art and community fun
DESCRIPTION:International Sculpture Day\, or ISDay\, is a worldwide annual celebration of sculpture on the last Saturday of April every year – with this year’s event set for Saturday\, April 26\, 2025. \n\nIt was established by the International Sculpture Center and is meant to raise awareness\, appreciation\, and enjoyment of sculpture in communities across the globe. There are hundreds of events that include workshops\, exhibitions\, and artist talks. \nThe 2025 International Sculpture Day is free to the public and will be held Saturday\, April 26\, from 1-4 p.m. at the Inkfish Foundation/George C. Scott Studios located at 22220 7th Avenue South in downtown Des Moines (map below). It’s presented by the Des Moines Legacy Foundation and Inkfish Foundation\, made possible by grants from 4Culture of King County. \nInternational Sculpture Day event in Des Moines began in 2023 when local artists Fred Andrews of the Des Moines Legacy Foundation and George C. Scott\, founder of the Inkfish Foundation\, teamed up to combine their sculpture expertise to create projects that were perfect for the kids and families of our community. \nThe projects include creating your own glass sculpture in the Inkfish glass studio\, conducted by the world famous glass artist\, George C. Scott and his assistants. Mr. Scott works with small groups and the projects are suitable for children if accompanied by an adult. There will be more sculpture projects outside\, where kids\, families and adults are instructed in creating art with wood\, paper\, wire\, and beads. \nA new activity for kids of all ages is the “Laced Up for Legacy” Sneaker Painting and Decorating Workshop. Turn your favorite high tops\, low tops\, or plain old tennis shoes into wearable art!  Personalize them using paints\, jewels\, embroidery\, patches\, sequins\, or with any of your own decorations to make your sneaker statement! \nThis workshop is a must for adults planning to attend the upcoming “Laced Up for Legacy” Bayside Sneaker Ball on Saturday\, June 14 at Des Moines Yacht Club. It’s all to support and to enrich the quality of life for our local children\, families\, and seniors! \nEvery year there is a guest artist who displays their work and discusses their art with the visitors. This year our guest is local artist\, Tom Valdez. Tom works in metal and is well known for his mobiles. And\, don’t miss the various exhibitions and displays of sculptural work in the Inkfish Gallery and outside of the building. \nThanks to a two year Sustaining Arts Grant awarded by 4Culture of King County to the Legacy Foundation in 2023\, funds were available to pay for ISDay guest artists and the creation and installation of a sculpture by local artist\, Pat McVay. \nBecause of the many memorable community arts events and sculpture projects in the last two years\, Fred on behalf of the Des Moines Legacy Foundation and George on behalf of Inkfish Foundation were honored with 4Culture’s new Doors Open Program Sustaining Arts Grants for years 2025-2027.  The grant funds will be used to advance the creation and understanding of art and its contribution to our community. \n\n\n\nBayside Sneaker Ball is June 14\nHey Des Moines Adults! You wont want to miss the “Laced up for Legacy” Bayside Sneaker Ball on June 14 at the Des Moines Yacht Club. It’s Legacy Foundation’s annual fundraiser featuring a Red Carpet step and repeat entrance with professional Photo Ops\, live Podcast\, live Jazz\, Pop and Swing Entertainment on three stages\, Dancing\, Food and Drinks\, Champagne hour\, Silent Auction with Sports and other exciting items\, one-of-a-kind Glass Sneaker\, a Paddle Raise to support our children in need\, and a Raffle of 2 Round-Trip Alaska Airline Tickets to anywhere Alaska Flies!
