DESCRIPTION:A six-week road closure is scheduled for a portion of 16th Ave South in Des Moines beginning Tuesday\, April 14\, 2026\, according to the City of Des Moines. \nThe closure will remain in place through Tuesday\, May 26\, and will affect 16th Ave South between South 250th Street and 14th Place South (map below). \nCity officials said the closure is necessary to install a sewer force main underneath the North Twin Bridge over the North Fork of McSorely Creek. \nA detour will be in place directing drivers around the work site and over to Marine View Drive. \nResidents who live within the closure area will continue to have access to their homes\, but vehicles will not be permitted to travel across the bridge during the construction period. \nFor more information\, residents can contact Ryan Phelan at (206) 824-4960 or by email at ryan@midwaysewer.org.

DESCRIPTION:Residents in Des Moines will have an opportunity to safely dispose of sensitive documents during a community shredding event on Wednesday\, April 22 hosted by the City of Des Moines. \nAccording to the city\, the shredding event will be held Wednesday\, April 22\, 2026\, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Des Moines Activity Center (map below). \nThe event is open to all residents and allows participants to securely shred common personal documents such as receipts\, bills\, file folders\, envelopes\, bank statements and cancelled checks. Staples are permitted with the documents. \nCity officials note that several materials will not be accepted for shredding\, including cardboard\, newspapers\, boxes\, X-rays and plastic items. \nThe shredding event is intended to help residents protect personal information by safely destroying documents that may contain sensitive data. \nResidents seeking more information can contact the Des Moines Activity Center at (206) 878-1642\, according to the city.
