SUMMARY:Waterland Parade's first-ever Block Party will be Saturday night\, July 18
DESCRIPTION:The beloved Waterland Parade is returning to Des Moines on Saturday\, July 18\, continuing a tradition that has brought the community together since 1960\, as well as introducing a new\, fun post-parade event. \nThis year\, organizers are excited to introduce something new: the first-ever Waterland Block Party\, immediately following the parade until about 10 p.m. \nThe block party will take place on Marine View Drive from South 223rd Street to South 225th Street and is designed to give neighbors\, families\, and visitors a place to stay\, connect\, and celebrate together long after the final parade entry passes by. Parade goers are encouraged to follow the last parade entry and bring their folding chairs to join the party! \nThe event will feature music\, food\, family-friendly entertainment\, activities for all ages\, and opportunities to support local businesses and community organizations. Organizers hope the block party starts a new tradition of adding something new to the parade\, in hopes of revitalizing what was once a multi-day festival. \n“In a time when so much of life happens online\, we want to create a space where people can simply spend more time together in real life\,” said organizers. “The Waterland Parade and festival has always been about community pride. The block party is about slowing down\, meeting your neighbors\, reconnecting with friends\, and making new memories together.” \nCommunity participation remains at the heart of the event. Parade entries are currently open for businesses\, organizations\, schools\, clubs\, performers\, and community groups interested in participating in one of the region’s longest-running community parades. \nThere are also many opportunities for volunteers to help make both the parade and block party successful.
