SUMMARY:All are invited to walk Des Moines Creek on Saturday\, July 18 with Waterland Walkers
DESCRIPTION:From our friends at WABI Burien: \n\n\n\n\nOur July walk will be along a portion of the Des Moines Creek Trail.\nHere are the details: \nDate and Time: Saturday\, July 18\, meet a few minutes before 10:00 a.m. \nPlace: SeaTac Des Moines Creek Trailhead Park\, 20300 18th Ave S\, SeaTac WA 98198. This is a new park that has opened recently. If you are using Google for directions\, make sure you specify SeaTac rather than Des Moines. We’ll meet in the parking lot near the restrooms. \nParking: The park has a large parking lot\, restrooms\, and easy access to the trail. \nRoute and Distance: The wide\, paved trail goes through a forest and runs close to the creek most of the way. We’ll do an out and back loop that will be slightly downhill on the way out and slightly uphill on the way back. The walk will be at least two miles and walkers will have the option to go further than that if they like. If we walk the full length of the trail and back\, the total distance will be about four miles. \nNotes: This walk is good for walkers of all levels. There is plenty of room for everyone to spread out and walk at their own pace. Well-behaved four-legged friends are also welcome. \nQuestions: If you have any questions or have trouble finding us on the day of the walk\, please text or call Anna Martin at (206) 501-5726. \nThanks\,\nAnna and Sharon

SUMMARY:Waterland Parade's first-ever Block Party will be Saturday night\, July 18
DESCRIPTION:The beloved Waterland Parade is returning to Des Moines on Saturday\, July 18\, continuing a tradition that has brought the community together since 1960\, as well as introducing a new\, fun post-parade event. \nThis year\, organizers are excited to introduce something new: the first-ever Waterland Block Party\, immediately following the parade until about 10 p.m. \nThe block party will take place on Marine View Drive from South 223rd Street to South 225th Street and is designed to give neighbors\, families\, and visitors a place to stay\, connect\, and celebrate together long after the final parade entry passes by. Parade goers are encouraged to follow the last parade entry and bring their folding chairs to join the party! \nThe event will feature music\, food\, family-friendly entertainment\, activities for all ages\, and opportunities to support local businesses and community organizations. Organizers hope the block party starts a new tradition of adding something new to the parade\, in hopes of revitalizing what was once a multi-day festival. \n“In a time when so much of life happens online\, we want to create a space where people can simply spend more time together in real life\,” said organizers. “The Waterland Parade and festival has always been about community pride. The block party is about slowing down\, meeting your neighbors\, reconnecting with friends\, and making new memories together.” \nCommunity participation remains at the heart of the event. Parade entries are currently open for businesses\, organizations\, schools\, clubs\, performers\, and community groups interested in participating in one of the region’s longest-running community parades. \nThere are also many opportunities for volunteers to help make both the parade and block party successful. Community members of all ages are encouraged to get involved. \nEvent details\, parade registration\, volunteer opportunities\, sponsorship information\, and festival updates can be found at www.WaterlandFestival.org.
