DESCRIPTION:Friends of Saltwater State Park Naturalists will host a series of free low tide beach exploration events Aug. 10-Aug. 13 at Saltwater State Park. \nThe family friendly programs will give visitors a chance to explore the beach during low tide and learn about Puget Sound marine life\, including sea stars\, crabs\, anemones and other shoreline species\, with help from local naturalists. \nThe events are open to all ages. \nOrganizers recommend that participants bring curiosity and shoes that can get wet. \nA Discover Pass is required for parking at the park\, and can be purchase on site – more info here. \nSchedule:\n\nMonday\, Aug. 10\, 9 to 11 a.m.\nTuesday\, Aug. 11\, 9:30 a.m. to Noon\nWednesday\, Aug. 12\, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.\nThursday\, Aug. 13\, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.\n\nSaltwater State Park is located at 25205 8th Place South.

DESCRIPTION:Mac Macdonald will speak at a Rotary Club of Des Moines and Normandy Park event starting at Noon on Wednesday\, Aug. 12\, at the Des Moines Theater. \nThe presentation will explore what movies including “Apocalypse Now\,” “The Longest Day\,” “Saving Private Ryan” and “The Boys in the Boat” have to do with Rotary and Rotarians today. \nMacdonald was hired by the organizing committee of the 2014 D-Day commemorations in Normandy\, France\, to address volunteerism among school-age audiences at ceremonies held at each of the invasion beaches\, according to the club. His slide show will focus on what he learned from people who fought in World War II or were caught up in it\, as well as lessons from other movies connected to community service and leadership. \nThe club said Macdonald\, a corporate trainer\, also will draw on his experience teaching leadership in seminars and his time acting in movies and commercials\, including “Apocalypse Now\,” “American Graffiti\,” “Murder She Wrote” and Rainier Beer commercials. \nThe event is open to all. DESCRIPTION:The Des Moines Arts Commission will bring six weeks of free live music to Des Moines Beach Park this summer with its 2026 Summer Concert Series\, beginning Wednesday night\, July 15. \nConcerts will be held Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Des Moines Beach Park\, 22030 Cliff Ave. S. (map below). \nEach concert will feature live entertainment\, along with food trucks and a beer garden. \n\nOpens Wednesday\, July 15 with Spike and the Impalers\, a Northwest cover band that has performed for 25 years.\nWednesday\, July 22: Kitty Mae\, country cover band.\nWednesday\, July 29: Nite Wave\, featuring 1980s new wave music.\nWednesday\, Aug. 5: ABBAgraphs\, an ABBA tribute band.\nWednesday\, Aug. 12: Stevie and the Blue Flames\, harmonica blues.\nWednesday\, Aug. 19: Power of Love\, a Huey Lewis tribute band.\n\nAccording to the Des Moines Arts Commission\, the annual series offers a variety of musical styles\, ranging from country and blues to classic pop and rock tribute performances. \nAll concerts are FREE to attend.
