The Board’s goal is to make sure the market remains a viable event\, promotes Washington farms and products\, and enhances of quality of life for the citizens of our community\, both in the City of Des Moines and more broadly. DESCRIPTION:The ‘7 Stories’ storytelling group will be hosting a free storytelling workshop on Wednesday\, July 6\, from 6-7:30 p.m.\, at the Highline Heritage Museum in Burien (map below). \nBarbara and Ron Hammond will lead the workshop. They just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. \n“Storytelling is a family tradition in both of our birth families\,” they said. “We read and told stories to our four children until the youngest went off to college – starting with the likes of ‘The Carrot Seed’ and ending with Mary Oliver and ‘The Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe.’ Barbara studied storytelling with the great Spencer Shaw at UW as part of her training as a children’s librarian. Ron just wings it.” \nBefore you come to the workshop\, think of a story from your life that can be told in a minute or two. Storytelling is a lot like playing jazz – it requires both careful preparation in getting ready and improvisation in presenting. Barbara and Ron will discuss both aspects and help you hone the story you bring with you into something you would be proud to present. \nWe are never more convincing than when we tell our own stories. Everybody has them. Sharing them is both rewarding and fun but benefits from careful preparation. Spend an hour and a half with two experienced storytellers and pick up some of the tips of the trade. \nWho hasn’t been captivated by a powerful or funny story? ‘7 Stories’ is a night of such storytelling – to build community\, empathy\, and celebrate our diversity. \nEach ‘7 Stories’ night has a theme. Storytellers sign up and are selected in advance. Real stories are mesmerizing and raw. Tickets are $25 each\, and can be purchased here. \nFor over 30 years\, Hansen has been building a reputation as the foremost Hendrix tribute on Earth. As one of the only players officially recognized by the Hendrix family\, Randy has been successfully doing his act since the 70s\, stunning audiences worldwide as he channels the spirit of Jimi and perfectly recreates the stage presence and skill of the legendary Axeman. Randy is also a composer/artist in his own right\, with many claims of fame. DESCRIPTION:The Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market continues its 2022 season on Saturday\, July 23\, 2022. \nThe market is open from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. every Saturday through Sept. 24 at the north parking lot of the Des Moines Marina. \nThe Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market is a 501(c)(4) and was founded in 2006 as a non-profit organization bringing farmers\, artisans\, and the local community together around a bountiful variety of vegetables\, fruit\, honey\, cheeses\, crafts\, flowers\, meat and fish\, ready to eat foods\, education\, information and entertainment. \nSince its inception\, the Market has been a prime gathering place for the City of Des Moines and surrounding communities. \nThe Market supports many food security initiatives and programs\, including vendors who accept Senior and Women\, Infant and Children (WIC) vouchers for fresh fruit and vegetables\, EBT (food stamps) and Fresh Bucks matching programs\, and King Conservation District Senior Health Eating Initiative for qualifying low-income seniors. \nSponsor and community booths provide a way for local and regional organizations to share what they offer and fundraise for school and social programs. \nThe market is governed by a volunteer board of directors made up of nine local citizens. The Board’s goal is to make sure the market remains a viable event\, promotes Washington farms and products\, and enhances of quality of life for the citizens of our community\, both in the City of Des Moines and more broadly.
