DESCRIPTION:The Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market is held every Saturday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Des Moines Marina North Parking Lot\, from June 3 – Sept. 30\, 2023. \nMore info at https://dmfm.org. \nThe Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market is a 501(c)(4) and was founded in 2006 as a non-profit organization bringing farmers\, artisans\, and the local community together around a bountiful variety of vegetables\, fruit\, honey\, cheeses\, crafts\, flowers\, meat and fish\, ready to eat foods\, education\, information and entertainment. Since its inception\, the Market has been a prime gathering place for the City of Des Moines and surrounding communities. \nThe Market supports many food security initiatives and programs\, including vendors who accept Senior and Women\, Infant and Children (WIC) vouchers for fresh fruit and vegetables\, EBT (food stamps) and Fresh Bucks matching programs\, and King Conservation District Senior Health Eating Initiative for qualifying low-income seniors. Sponsor and community booths provide a way for local and regional organizations to share what they offer and fundraise for school and social programs. \nThe market is governed by a volunteer board of directors made up of nine local citizens. The Board’s goal is to make sure the market remains a viable event\, promotes Washington farms and products\, and enhances of quality of life for the citizens of our community\, both in the City of Des Moines and more broadly. The market is funded exclusively from sponsor and foundation donations\, public and private grants\, and vendor application and stall fees.

The garden produce is harvested by volunteers and is donated to White Center Food Bank. \nSolar Power runs the irrigation system\, music for events\, and power for cooking classes\, making the garden eco-friendly and sustainable. \nA music stage in the old baseball batting cage\, now covered with flowering vines provides a lush\, green backdrop for musicians and speakers. \nThere’s artwork on the garden fences from local artists\, sculptures created by students at the New Start High School\, and an Orca mural to enjoy while strolling along the pathways. \nPea patches are available for $30 per year. DESCRIPTION:The Burien Art Market (BAM!) in the Garden is returning to the New Start Community Garden on Saturday\, July 1\, 2023\, from 1 – 5 p.m. \nThis fundraiser event is different from what might be expected from a fundraiser – it’s located in a blooming garden! \nBAM! features local artists selling original arts and handmade crafts. \nBring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy the entertainment and music from the stage. \nThe July 1st event features 4 performers: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDancer/percussionist Etienne Cakpo\, from Benin\, West Africa\, shares his dance style and expression.\nJanelle Bel Isle dances in many styles from the middle east to the Balkans.\nChet Corpt brings sweet sounds on the melodious Kora\, an African harp lute made from a gourd.\nThe 4th performer\, Bob Antolin\, is a multi-instrumentalist playing guitar\, flute\, and saxophone.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Shark Garden (named after the school’s mascot) is also known as the New Start Community Garden\, is a dynamic community gathering space worth a brief history and description to set the stage of BAM! fundraising party. \nLocated in the old baseball field of the Salmon Creek Elementary School\, the 1.6-acre garden is now filled with greenhouses\, pea patches\, an orchard\, a plethora of flowers\, a native plant garden\, and more. \nThe garden produces approximately 4\,000 pounds (1\,800 kgs) of food annually and focusses on veggies and herbs used in international recipes and dishes used by our diverse community. The garden produce is harvested by volunteers and is donated to White Center Food Bank. \nSolar Power runs the irrigation system\, music for events\, and power for cooking classes\, making the garden eco-friendly and sustainable. \nA music stage in the old baseball batting cage\, now covered with flowering vines provides a lush\, green backdrop for musicians and speakers. \nThere’s artwork on the garden fences from local artists\, sculptures created by students at the New Start High School\, and an Orca mural to enjoy while strolling along the pathways. \nPea patches are available for $30 per year. So\, if you want to be part of this garden\, there’s a spot for you on the waiting list at SharkGrden.org. \nThis fundraiser supports Burien Arts throughout the year. DESCRIPTION:A new way to give away – or get – free stuff is coming to Burien’s Three – or ‘FREE‘ – Tree Point neighborhood the weekend of July 8 & 9\, 2023 – an inaugural “Giveaway Day” event. \n\n\n\nThe Plan: \n\n\n\n\nOn Saturday\, July 8 and Sunday\, July 9\, 2023\, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.\, residents of Three Tree Point who live on SW 172nd Street\, SW 171st Street\, Three Tree Point Lane and Maplewild Ave SW are encouraged to set out things they don’t need anymore outside their homes/driveways.\n\n\n\nWe strongly suggest adding a “FREE STUFF” sign to indicate that stuff is free and up for grabs.\n\n\n\nOnce stuff is out and labeled\, it’s up for grabs in a kind of free neighborhood giveaway event – just drive/stroll through the area and take what you like!\n\n\n\nThere will be no “holds” allowed on items – everything is up to you to haul and you cannot knock on doors or bother homeowners. It’s first come\, first served!\n\n\n\nThere is no main organizer to this event\, and we strongly encourage participants to treat it as an experiment to see if it works.\n\n\n\nRemember – put out some good stuff you don’t need\, not junk or garbage\, and let’s turn this neighborhood into FREE Tree Point!
