Wanolitto’s Musings for this Saturday’s Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market
Last Saturday saw lots more shoppers than in previous weeks and I think the nice weather had a lot to do with it. Most vendors had a good sales day, including our market wines. The new Waterfront Red blend continues with strong sales. Don’t forget to pick some up for your Thanksgiving table and Christmas gifts.
It was also a pleasure for the market to present two checks to the Art Commission as a result of our Sunset Markets in July and August. The first check was shared profits from our food truck sales. The second was from Marine View Massage & Aruba J Mind Body Wellness Center. They gave free masseges for donations to the Commission.
Winter is on it’s way, better pick up your Hoody. Stop by the Information Booth and browse thru our Logo Wear samples and extras. We are closing out everything in our line with great low prices.
Vendor Profile: Face painter extrodinaire, Sterling Paris has been a fixture at our market for 6 years. You can find her booth throughout the market every week. She said last Saturday she painted the first Pumpkin face of the season. She is also a special assignment reporter for the B-Town Blog. Contact her for all your parties or events.
Music: PK Dwyer and Tony Serzo
Food Trucks: Nibbles and Jemil’s
Community Groups: The Genesis Project is a drop-in center that serves as a safe-haven for women and girls who have been involved in commercial sexual exploitation and trafficking. They have served 188 clients since opening in 2012. Stop by their booth to learn more about the program and how you can help. The center is located on Highway 99 in Sea-Tac.
There is still time to enter our annual Chili Cook-Off. If you think you have the best chili recipe around, pick up an application at the information booth or go online to download the application. There is room for 2 more teams, so get your team together and start soaking those beans.
The green Healthy Eating shopping continues to make their presents felt. If you are a senior 55 years or older, please stop by the Information Booth to see if you qualify for this program. We issue weekly free $10 vouchers for qualifying seniors. This program is brought to you by partners, the Des Moines Farmers Market and King Conservation District. The vouchers are good for fruits, vegetables and processed food products (bakery items, etc).
Also, don’t forget HYDE Shuttle is providing local door to door transportation to the market for seniors 55 and older and people with disabilities of all ages living in Des Moines, Normandy Park, Burien and this year Sea-Tac. For a ride call 206-727-6262.
